Itinerary.
At 08:00, you will be picked up by your guide at your accommodation in Reykjavík and depart. You will then drive towards Húsafell, a popular holiday destination for many Icelandic people, with stops at Barnafossar and Hraunfossar waterfalls. After noon you will join an excursion to Langjökull glacier where you will be taken to the biggest ice cave in Iceland. This man-made ice cave is over 600 meter (about 2000 feet) long and is truly a remarkable experience. In the cave you will learn a whole lot about the Icelandic glaciers from your guide as well as getting some amazing photo opportunities. Upon your descent you will be taken to your accommodation in the area where you will get a well deserved dinner and relax in the soothing Icelandic countryside. A visit to Víðgelmir lava tube, Iceland’s longest natural lava tube, is optional in the afternoon/evening for those who feel up to it. Be sure to ask your guide about it.
On day two you will be enjoying the most popular sightseeing tour in Iceland, The Golden Circle. The first stop is at Þingvellir national park. Here you can see the effects of the movement of the North american- and Eurasian tectonic plates. The plates drift apart at a rate of 2 cm (¾ of an inch) each year causing the land between them to subside. It is also the site where the oldest parliament in the world was founded, the Alþingi of Iceland, established in 930. Next up is the spouting hot spring (Strokkur) in the Geysir area. Here you will witness the power that lies beneath the ground as scorching geothermal water spouts in the air. The last scheduled stop is Gullfoss where you can go for a leisurely walk down to this iconic waterfall and witness its thunderous roar. Afterwards you will be taken to your accommodation in the area where you will enjoy some dinner and evening relaxation.
The south coast of Iceland offers some spectacular sights and is sure to leave you with some truly memorable moments. The first stop is at Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s many waterfalls. Here you will get a chance to walk behind the waterfall for a unique view. Next up is the very picturesque waterfall Skógafoss. After lunch, you will drive to Sólheimajökull where you will go for a 1 ½ hour easy glacier walk with your fully certified guide. Once you return to the base camp you will be taken back to your preferred accommodation in Reykjavík.
