Explore the mystical world of darkness and ice in the Lofthellir lava cave in Iceland. The cave boasts of the greatest natural ice sculptures currently known in an Icelandic lava cave. Lofthellir lava cave is only a 45 minute drive on a rugged track and a short walk from Lake Mývatn.
Your destination is a Lava Cave filled with ice, stalagmites and Ice sculptures. You will also make a stop at Goðafoss Waterfall on the way to Lake Mývatn. The Lofthellir lava cave has stunning natural ice sculptures making the inside seem like a true winter wonderland. You’ll travel along a rugged track on a 4×4 truck to the unique volcano Hverfell. You will travel through the crater row of Lúdentarborgir to the roots of Mt. Hvannfell. After a 20-minute walk across a lava field which is adorned by endless rope shaped lava, you’ll reach the Lofthellir lava cave.
During winter you might have to use Snowshoes to get across the lava.
