What you'll experience.

A great lava cave experience located just a few minutes from Reykjavík city.

Explore the magnificent Raufarhólshellir in this lava cave experience. The Raufarhólshellir lava cave is one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland. The lava tunnel was created by volcanic eruption about 5.200 years ago. The cave is located just 30 minutes from Reykjavík and is easily accessed year round.

The lava cave is covered in large rocks and is difficult to pass. That is why paths and a footbridge have been constructed so it is easily accessible when doing the Lava Tunnel Tour. Impressive lighting in this part of the tunnel highlights the changing colors and clearly shows the powerful seismic activity that formed the tunnel.

Please note: This tour is the standard tour with transfer from Reykjavík. The tour should fit most people, but if you have trouble with balance, walking on uneven surfaces, or difficulties with walking up or down steep stairs.

Pick up: 8:30-8:50am from your hotel, hostel or guesthouse in Reykjavík. Note the pickup is operated by Reykjavík Excursions (and marked “Reykjavik Excursions”) so be ready in front of your selected pick up destination from 8:30am. The sign on the bus will state “Tour Pick-up”.
