Enjoy the Golden Circle and Friðheimar Greenhouse tour, Iceland´s most famous traveling route.
Experience the best of Iceland’s nature and culture on a full-day Golden Circle and Friðheimar Greenhouse tour from Reykjavik. On this small-group tour, our knowledgeable guide will share stories and connect with all passengers as we travel through the beautiful surroundings in a minibus. With a maximum group size of 19 people, you’ll enjoy a more personalized experience as you explore the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most popular route. Located not far from the capital, this route offers a diverse range of natural landscapes and a rich history to discover. This tour is perfect for families and offers breathtaking scenery throughout.
The tour
Begin your Golden Circle and Friðheimar Greenhouse tour journey at Thingvellir National Park, where Iceland’s parliament, The Althing, was founded in 930 A.D. The Althing is also known as the oldest continuingly run parliament in the world. There you will also witness where the tectonic plates are tearing Iceland apart. Additionally, we’ll visit Oxarárfoss waterfall that graces the Þingvellir area.
Next, we’ll stop at Laugarvatn geothermal area. The area is a popular swimming spot with warm patches along the shoreline year-round. This area is also known for its famous “Rúgbrauð” or baked rye bread. The rye bread is prepared in a pot buried in the sand for 24 hours, using the heat of the geothermal waters to cook it. You will then visit Efstidalur dairy farm, where you’ll have the opportunity to try their delicious, homemade organic ice cream.
From there, you will continue to the stunning Geysir geothermal area. There you will see the spouting geyser Strokkur erupt every five-ten minutes. It hurls boiling hot water up to 40 meters into the air. Next up is the mesmerizing Gullfoss waterfall. Gullfoss drops around 32 meters into a rugged canyon in few settings. It is a natural phenomenon that tops many lists.
During the tour you will also visit Friðheimar geothermal greenhouse. The greenhouse is a productive tomato farm where you’ll learn about the processes of greenhouse horticulture. There you will witness how they grow eco-friendly, delicious tomatoes using geothermal force, glacial water, and bumblebees. Friðheimar is also home to Icelandic horses, so you’ll have the chance to pet and take photos with them.
Included in the price is a visit to the Kerið volcanic crater, one of several crater lakes in the area. Kerið is the most visually striking of these craters.
